History
De Ruiter Seeds was founded in Bleiswijk in the Netherlands on July 1, 1945. Wouter de Ruiter set up a small company that produced seed potatoes and agricultural and horticultural seeds. He quickly expanded his activities by selecting, breeding and producing seeds himself, with success. In the early 1970's the company introduced the 1st innovation: ‘Sporu', a cucumber variety immune to the dreaded Spot virus. Soon after, ‘Sonato' proved a major breakthrough in international horticulture: a tomato variety resistant to the Tobacco Mosaic Virus.
In the 1980's the product range expanded with peppers and aubergine, and a decade after the company made a great achievement with the further development of rootstocks. In 2008 De Ruiter Seeds became part of Monsanto.
